The daily programming for every student at F. R. Haythorne includes...

  • instruction in core courses (Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies, Info Studies)
  • student selected complementary courses
  • Physical Education or DPA (daily physical activity) - offered on alternating days

Timetables reflect a 6-day instructional cycle.  Each "day" in the cycle consists of seven 45 minute classes as well as a five minute homeroom at the beginning of each day.

Core and Complementary Courses

Core Courses are those which are mandatory and are taken by all students. They include...

  • Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education/DPA
  • Information Studies

Complementary Courses vary by grade level, and are those which are student selected.

F.R. Haythorne students take a minimum of two complementary courses per year. As a general rule, all students are required to take CTS (Fashion Studies, Foods Studies, and Applied Technologies). Please refer to extended descriptions provided in the "Programs - Complementary Courses" link on the navigation bar.

NOTE: Students interested in Band and French should select the course in grade 7 as they are three-year sequential courses, and generally, cannot be started in grades 8 or 9.

For more information, please select specific courses from the navigation bar.
